Friday Project #3

Created on May 07, 2010 by Garrett Winder

Over the last few weeks we've been writing about the tweakage and updates we've been doing around here in order to keep improving the sexy experience. We do this kind of stuff on a monthly basis with our clients but have always left our own site in the dust. Now we're not.

First off, we needed to update the big intro image on the homepage. We try and change it every few weeks to keep things fresh. It's an easy way to make our site new again. We had some fun with this but eventually chose the one that's up there now. Eventually we want to make this area a place to market different "products" but we're not quite there yet. Sidenote: All of the pictures we have been using were taken in the alleyways of downtown Abilene, Texas. I mean alleyway. There's only 1 alley in downtown Abilene.

The second but not third dated piece of our homepage was the "Featured Client." We had been featuring our work with Christian Homes for a few months now and it was high time to change. We went with the Milsoft Users Conference so we could showcase the other tricks we have up our sleeves.

Another thing we did was fix a minor issue we were having with our footer. If a page didn't have much content on it, the footer would just float up there on the middle of your screen like this. That looked dumb. Fortunately for us http://cssstickyfooter.com/ came to the rescue. On a flying carpet.

Lastly, we fixed our secondary sidebars. Our sidebars hold secondary content that isn't quite as important as the main page content because, well, it's secondary. (pause for crowd cheers). There was no separation though. It was just sitting there all awkwardly saying "hey, look at me, I'm Ryan Dunagan." We ended up putting together a simple little shadow/border image type thing and throwing it in there - which definitely did the trick.

Okay, yippie ki-ya, that's a wrap. Now go fix your site because I'm sure there is something that needs fixing.
